WP1

Consortium Management. Leader UPF, M1-30
This Workpackage will run throughout the project and is crucial for the successful execution of all the activities. The main for WP1 is to manage the project to a successful completion of its objectives, within the agreed time schedule and budget, with results that meet the high quality standards demanded. The Project Coordinator will be in charge of the scientific leadership of iMP and with supervising all the critical management decisions. It will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of the project – which will be run by the Secretariat as the operational hub of iMP’s management and administrative activities. The Secretariat is also the link between the members of the consortium, its external supporters, and the European Commission.

WP2

Intelligent Media Processes and Environments. Leader DTS, M1-18
This work package will analyse the requirements for Intelligent Media processes for digital cinema, to understand how the proposed technologies can be applied in the production and distribution pipelines, and how the results may be evaluated in realistic contexts. This will make sure that the work is industrially focussed and meets real user needs, for a range of workflows. The media industry, and cinema in particular, is highly craft based and idiosyncratic, and every movie is in a sense a different
prototype. At the same time, the processes involved are inherently the same (shoot– edit – grade – add special effects – composite – add sound – finish – master – version – distribute – display), even if they may be differently ordered and executed, with multiple repetitions. A more structured representation of digital workflows is the foundation for building the semantic controls required in a ‘Virtual Film Factory’.

WP3

Semantic-driven Processes for Media Management. Leader NUIG, M1-24
The objectives of WP3 are to research and develop the semantic technologies and metadata management tools to drive a much more efficient infrastructure, which will eliminate the need for multiple version storage and rendering. The work on semantics will concentrate on the control of processes, while the definition of new technical metadata and metadata classes that may be required by audio and video applications will be addressed in WP4.

WP4

Creative Applications. Leaders UPF, BM, M1-24
The purpose of this work package is to develop creative applications that are based on the technologies pioneered in WP2 and WP3. It is divided into three tasks, which are closely related and whose results will be integrated in WP6. The first task deals with the development of novel visible applications; the second develops novel audible applications; and the third will ensure the adaptation of a representative set of existing applications to work with the iMP metadatabase and semantic technologies. FilmLight will develop the GUI for the ‘postproduction-centric’ operations built upon the Baselight system. The responsible partners for audio function (BM), distribution and cinema-level applications (DTS) will develop the necessary customised GUIs, as will Lapospo to integrate iMP systems with its all-digital post workflow and tools, using the API developed in WP3.

WP5

Applications for Content Adaptation and Distribution. Leader DTS, M1-24
To develop automated applications for content adaption and distribution by using the iMP metadata derived from postproduction combined with customer requirments.  Content can be adapted based on language, subtitles, censor certification and/or alternate endings.  The content broker developed within WP5 will keep track of exisiting content, plan its efficient distribution and define additional elements required for adapted content.

WP6

Virtual Film Factory. Leader FL M19-30
The purpose of Work Package 6 is to assemble (and test, and evaluate) all the prototype components developed in WP3-5, and integrate them with the necessary hardware platform and network architecture to create a Virtual Film Factory for postproduction, customisation, mastering and distribution of digital film content.

WP7

Dissemination and exploitation planning. Leaders UPF M1-30
The Dissemination and exploitation Planning Work Package is designed to make the bridge between the RTD work and the external world. It addresses several different professional communities: digital media postproduction companies in the film, advertising and broadcast markets; film studios; the postproduction software and media software developer community; the film and media distribution and display industry (including theatre owners); and the ICT research community.
