We note that the ontology is a live document, intended and expected to evolve over the time, based on input by the partners and as we gain deeper knowledge about processes and requirements, the terms will grow and/or will be refined.

D3.1.2: Metadata tools for iMP: standards, use cases and procedures http://imp.upf.edu/2010/01/26/d3-1-2-metadata-tools-for-imp-standards-use-cases-and-procedures/ http://imp.upf.edu/2010/01/26/d3-1-2-metadata-tools-for-imp-standards-use-cases-and-procedures/#comments Tue, 26 Jan 2010 15:13:07 +0000 editor http://www.imp-project.eu/?p=334 This document is the report for the containing libraries which implement procedures based on the ontologies, the related documentation, and the proposals for any standards and data formats that may be shared with the distribution and postproduction community.

Four metadata languages are described: RDF, RDFS, OWL and SPARQL. For each one of them the report will describe available libraries that employ these standards. Note that the list of available libraries is not exhaustive, there are others available.

Furthermore, this report presents two use-cases based on the Digital Cinema current architecture and proposes a decision support system.

We list several ontologies for the iMP project and explain how digital cinema relationships can be expressed in RDF.

Linked Data and Databases http://imp.upf.edu/2010/01/25/linked-data-and-databases/ http://imp.upf.edu/2010/01/25/linked-data-and-databases/#comments Mon, 25 Jan 2010 09:22:57 +0000 editor http://www.imp-project.eu/?p=350 The paper “Understanding Linked Open Data as a Web-Scale Database” has been accepted for publication at the Second International Conference on Advances in Databases, Knowledge, and Data Applications. Co-author Dr. Michael Hausenblas, NUIG, notes that this is an important contribution to the work carried out in WP3 and WP5.

D3.2.1:Initial API and Metadatabase Middleware Specification http://imp.upf.edu/2010/01/11/d3-2-1initial-api-and-metadatabase-middleware-specification/ http://imp.upf.edu/2010/01/11/d3-2-1initial-api-and-metadatabase-middleware-specification/#comments Mon, 11 Jan 2010 14:53:59 +0000 admin http://193.145.50.211/?p=195 The metadatabase – a metadata centric alternative access method to the audiovisual content stored on a general-purpose filesystem – provides a powerful basis for managing and searching large volumes of distributed files typically found in a post-production environment. The architecture of the metadatabase allows a reliable and robust representation of  the underlying filesystem in real time without compromising its integrity, access and performance. An initial API is defined, providing a convenient method to build content management and image processing applications on top of it, exploiting the vast improvements in performance derived from operating on aggregated sequence metadata.

Media Fragments URI 1.0 http://imp.upf.edu/2009/12/18/media-fragments-uri-1-0/ http://imp.upf.edu/2009/12/18/media-fragments-uri-1-0/#comments Fri, 18 Dec 2009 11:16:16 +0000 editor http://www.imp-project.eu/?p=348 The W3C Media Fragments Working Group has published the first public working draft of the Media Fragments URI 1.0 syntax and semantics. Dr. Michael Hausenblas from iMP member NUIG has contributed to the draft, which feeds into the overall iMP metadata architecture.

D3.1.1 iMP collaborative ontology http://imp.upf.edu/2009/11/26/imp-collaborative-ontology/ http://imp.upf.edu/2009/11/26/imp-collaborative-ontology/#comments Thu, 26 Nov 2009 09:46:30 +0000 admin http://193.145.50.211/?p=150 http://imp.deri.ie

The iMP ontology is created and maintained with Neologism [1], a simple web-based RDF Schema vocabulary editor and publishing system, producing output compliant to Linked Data [2]. Neologism is is written in PHP and built on the Drupal platform [3].

For more information on Neologism contact Dr. Michael Hausenblas ( michael.hausenblas@deri.org), Linked Data Research Centre, DERI, NUI Galway.

Interlinking Multimedia http://imp.upf.edu/2009/04/27/interlinking-multimedia/ http://imp.upf.edu/2009/04/27/interlinking-multimedia/#comments Mon, 27 Apr 2009 08:28:10 +0000 editor http://www.imp-project.eu/?p=352 Researcher from four different institutions, including Dr. Michael Hausenblas (from iMP partner NUIG) presented the paper “Interlinking Multimedia: How to Apply Linked Data Principles to Multimedia Fragments” at the Linked Data on the Web workshop (LDOW2009) during WWW09 and received very good feedback. The research carried out contributes to the media meta-database design of iMP (WP3).
